Dan Cohn is taking the family business to the next level by crafting a Cabernet with the help of Martinelli/Flowers alum Tom Hinde.  We’re talking mailing-list caliber talent and California’s best vineyards at an absurdly affordable price-point.  It’s hard to see how they make this work, so better load up before the accountants learn about this!

"...a Cabernet I had last night - Daniel Cohn's 2014 Bellacosa, a delicious, supple, and savory wine that defies stratospheric Napa pricing game. Check it out!"

- Robert Parker

About the wine

The inaugural release of Daniel Cohn’s “Bellacosa” is the kind of Cab that thwacks you right between the eyes.  Holy!  Is this really this good – at this price?  Bellacosa translates to “beautiful thing” and it’s aptly named – there’s such killer fruit in this bottle that Cab lovers from both sides of the aisle are going to be reaching for it.  Whether you’re a fan of the rugged, hilltop, old-school Cabernet (Diamond Creek, Chappellet) or prefer the more luxurious style of the new school (Caymus, Vineyard 29) you’re going to dig on “Bellacosa.”  The reason why?  Daniel Cohn’s been around wine since middle-school and he knows pretty much everybody.  When the time came to make his own wine, he called in a lifetime’s worth of favors and let’s just say that the folks who pitched in on this would read like the first page of a Parker Napa Report.

About the vineyard

Diamond Creek, Oak Knoll, Rutherford Bench.  It’s a murderer’s row of five-star vineyard sites and they are what sets Dan Cohn’s Bellacosa apart from the pack.  Stretching from Sonoma to Napa and Lake County in the diverse “North Coast” appellation, it captures a little bit of each region’s signature style and weaves them together.  Lovers of supple, soft, plum-tinged Cabernet will recognize Sonoma’s gentle hillside fruit.  If you detect a spicy backbone that makes you crave grilled meat, that’s the influence of the iron-infused volcanic soils of Lake County’s Red Hills – unquestionably the hottest new region for California reds.  And of course, the blueberry and espresso of Napa’s best sites forms the formidable core.  It’s this combination of indulgent fruit, suave texture and spicy counterpoint that makes for such a compelling Cab.

About the winemakers, Tom Hinde & David Sayre

Daniel Cohn unites two great winemaking talents in Tom Hinde and David Sayre.  Tom brings a remarkable wealth of experience both large and small-scale, having run La Crema, Hartford Family Wines, Flowers and Martinelli.  He even is part owner and winemaker at Yao Family Wines along with Yao Ming (don’t laugh – check out the scores on these guys!).  Meanwhile, David Sayre is one of the true blending geniuses of Californian wine.  Extremely well-versed with the state’s vast range of vineyards, he’s been assembling super-blends that routinely score high and sell low – if you’re familiar with the phenomenon that is Cameron Hughes, then you know David’s work already.  Between these two uniquely skilled masters, Daniel Cohn has the expertise and the connections to crank out mailing-list caliber wine at affordable prices.  Very impressive!

94 points - Tasting Panel

"Deep, earthy chocolate notes invigorate the palate. Raspberry painted on blueberry painted on blackberry makes for layers of sumptuous fruit, with a juiciness that goes to the max. The acidity is just right and pinpoints the pleasure principle for pairing with duck, grilled meats and cheese."

93-94 points - Jonathan Asher, Sommelier

"This wine is made from a blend of grapes grown predominantly in the Napa Valley and Lake County. The 2014 Bellacosa Cabernet Sauvignon has a rich palate of dark fruit with subtle hints of smokey cedar and cocoa. The Napa fruit gives this wine its blackberry, black cherry flavors, while the Lake County fruit brings incredible ripeness. This Cabernet is big and should continue to develop more complex flavors with some cellar time."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
