Burgundian wine master William Fevre revolutionized the world’s viticultural landscape when he launched this eponymous Chilean property back in 1990. Translation: there’s a pretty enormous legacy to uphold here. Fortunately, winemaking great Cristian Aliaga Coronal has proven to be up for the task vintage after vintage, and this remarkable Cab Sauv is no exception.  Made from carefully sourced estate grapes from the Maipo Valley, this exquisitely balanced red whose bold intensity is expertly rounded by the right touch of nuance. Popping aromatics of raspberry, black currant, plum, and dry leaf transition to expressions of black berry fruit and subtle oak before ending on a silky finish.

About the wine

One of the coolest things about Chile’s Maipo Valley is that it’s voice hasn’t been totally defined. The only thing that is truly definitive here is that the fruit that’s grown here can produces some mind-blowing vintages, particularly if it’s lucky enough to be plucked by a viticultural master. It’s fair to say that the estate grapes sourced for William Fevre Chile’s outstanding Cab Sauv hit the lottery. Winemaker and indisputable Chilean wine authority Christian Aliaga Coronal has made magic with the gathered grapes through a smart combination of traditional and modern techniques, allowing whatever message they’d like to share with wine aficionados to shine through. Clearly, they have a lot to say, as they coalesce into a deep cherry-hued expression of terroir marked by intense flavor and ballerina balance. Brazen aromas of raspberry, black currant, blueberry, plum, toffee, and dry leaf practically leap from the glass. The boldness nicely juxtaposes with a smooth, round mouthfeel framed by prominent black berry fruit and nuanced oak. Silky tannins guide the journey to a baby-smooth finish. This is the wine to have on hand for the wine lover that’s not completely sold on Chilean wine, as it can turn the cynic into a convert in a solitary sip.

About the winery and vineyard

William Fevre Chile’s very existence is a product of visionary intuition and family-fueled resolve. When Burgundian wine impresario William Fevre stumbled upon the San Juan property and its surrounding mountainous landscape, he found the perfect spot to produce Chardonnay. One problem: the property’s owner, Victor Pino Torche, had no interest in selling what was his family’s summer retreat. Yet instead of parting ways, a partnership was formed in 1990; one that allowed William to explore the potential of a region that was nothing more than a humble hamlet. More than twenty-five years and one generation later, and this modest property has grown into one of the driving forces of Chile’s burgeoning winemaking scene. It remains a compelling label because all the region’s secrets have yet to be discovered and this sense of mystique gives expert winemaker Cristain Aliaga Coronal carte blanche to create intriguing wines that capture the wine world’s attention as soon as they hit the market. For this killer Cab Sauv, Cristian ascends to the winery’s elevated estate vines of San Luis de Pirque, nestled within the confines of Chile’s highly acclaimed Maipo Valley region. Surrounded by mountain freshness, washed in a daily bath of light, and ensconced in well-draining soil, the vines struggle just enough to produce small, fresh fruit whose deep concentration practically drips through their skin. They’re the perfect subjects for Cristian’s singular brand of voodoo, and the wine they produce is remarkable enough to make the wine world thankful that William and Victor joined forces all those years ago.

About the winemaker

Nobody’s a bigger authority on Chilean wine than Cristian Aliaga Coronel, and he has the credentials to prove it. When he’s not producing William Fevre Chile’s killer wine labels, he can be found serving as President of the Chilean Winemakers Association. It’s a measure of clout that’s well-earned, as it’s been cultivated through decades of internationally-fueled winemaking acumen. Cristian’s spectacular resume includes globetrotting collaborative stints at Kendall-Jackson, Paul Hobbs, and Saintsbury in Napa, Chateau Dillon in Bordeaux, and New Zealand’s prestigious Villa Maria. This eye-catching highlights dovetail rather well with his immense experience within the Chilean wine scene, which includes stops at Errazuriz and an extended 12-year gig at Veramonte. At William Favre, Cristian’s wealth of winemaking experience provides the fuel that allows him to explore emerging, unproven Chilean terroirs and guide them to their rightful coordinates on the world’s wine map.

92 pts, James Suckling

"Aromas of orange peel, nut and currant follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Succulent and fine wine."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
