It’s fitting that CaliPaso’s luxurious property is a highly popular place to tie the knot. After all, the winery’s outstanding wines provide a uniquely cool spin on wedded bliss. Each of CaliPaso’s limited-production labels is an ideal marriage of Paso Robles beautiful terroir and winemaker Alan Kinne's enormous talent. Marked by a velvet smoothness and a pinpoint balance, this result is a silky beauty whose deep fruit is tempered by lingering nuanced earth and spice.  Production is very limited so swift action is essential.

About the wine

According to experts, Paso Robles’ terrific 2012 harvest was merely the warm-up act for 2013. For a winemaking impresario like CaliPaso’s viticultural veteran Alan Kinne, the season provided a chance to show off the skills that’s made him an indelible part of Paso winemaking royalty. Judging by the excellence of this killer Cabernet Sauvignon, this chance wasn’t wasted. Alan didn’t do anything fancy; he simply sourced the best estate-grown fruit he could find, stepped back, and let the grapes speak for themselves. It turns out they had plenty to say. This medium-bodied masterwork is a savory sipper built on a foundation of lush dark fruit and earth-driven balance. Essences of black currants and plums flourish on the nose and seamlessly segue to the palate in a velvet-sleek fashion. The fruity notes unfurl to release an exquisite mélange of vanilla, sweet oak, and suggestions of spice and cedar. Soft tannins lead to an opulent finish. This limited-production label captures the essence of what makes California’s Central Coast so captivating, making it a prime gateway for wine lovers to explore this criminally underrated region.

About the winery & vineyards

It’s not uncommon to see a couple getting married amongst CaliPaso’s rolling hills. After all, the winery doubles as a luxury inn, and its dramatically undulating vineyard captures the beauty of Paso Robles at its most opulent. But this winery’s more than a pretty face. The estate vines that have been the background for many a nuptial is also a viticultural wonderland for CaliPaso’s heralded winemaker Alan Kinne. The Cab Sauv fruit he sources from here to create this sumptuous Cab Sauv fully delight in Paso’s coastally-charged climate and wide diurnal temperatures; metrics that infuse each grape with vibrant ripeness and silky smoothness. Alan handles the succulent fruit with the same minimalistic approach that’s served him well during his storied 30+ year career. His deft skill set produces a selection worthy of the property’s breathtaking layout.

About the winemaker

Alan Kinne’s reputation as a winemaking superstar wasn’t built in Bordeaux or Champagne. It was forged in Virginia. He set up his award-winning wine consulting firm there in 1979, and his exquisite work with labels like Horton Vineyards and Chrysalis Vineyards transformed the state from viticultural oddity to a certifiable regional force. His impressive 30-plus year winemaking journey also includes stints in places expected and unexpected, from Oregon and Paso Robles to Long Island and Michigan. At CaliPaso, every tidbit of wine-crafting acumen he’s amassed by crisscrossing the country is on full display. It’s a knowledge base that’s passionately funneled by a philosophy of simplicity; one that treats winemaking as a natural art form that merely requires subtle human intrusion. Given the high level of prestige he commands, it’s safe to say it’s a mindset that works rather well.

"A clean purple with a translucent ruby hue that leads to a nose packing jammy black and blue fruits, cherry, stone fruits, and scorched earth. An invigorating and fresh palate follows, filled with red raspberries, bright cherry, stone fruit and savory notes. This medium plus bodied wine and moderate tannin is set up for drinking in the near future and is a real quaffer! Difficult to beat for an estate grown wine from Paso Robles at $16.99 a bottle. Drink now or over the next 5 years. Food:  Duck a l’Orange, Pork Spare Ribs, Grilled Meats, Charcuterie."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
