Twenty Rows pledges to make “Napa Valley wines you can drink every day,” according to their website. This is a good thing, because the sumptuous, cost-effective labels this award-winning, family-owned winery pumps out with each passing harvest are the stuff that oenophiles of all stripes will clamor to have in their collection at all times.  This outstanding take on Carneros’ world-renowned Pinot Noir fruit continues the winery’s sterling viticultural streak. Winemaker extraordinaire Brian Nuss gently transforms the succulent Pinot into a richly concentrated expression of terroir; a vibrant beast marked by bright fruit and earthy nuance. It’s California Pinot at its peak.

About the wine

2013’s fantastic growing season made good appellations great and great appellations phenomenal. It also upgraded the already exceptional Pinot Noir fruit grown in the world-class Carneros appellation to once-in-a-generation status. This special fruit equated to candy for Twenty Rows’ winemaking wizard Brian Nuss, the farmer-turned-vintner whose tireless passion for seeking out the best fruit possible is the stuff of legend. Not only did he find a gold mine of Pinot goodness in Carneros, he also took a hands-off approach toward their journey to the bottle, ensuring the fruit could speak for themselves. And boy, did it speak volumes. Driven by densely packed aromas and flavors with just enough nuance to keep things reeled in, this label envelopes the very soul of California Pinot. Bright aromatic pops of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry flourish on the nose. These notes are joined on the palate by subtle undercurrents of cedar, sandalwood, coffee, and a slight earthy nudge that carries to its finish. This is an affordable beauty that oenophiles will want to have at the ready whenever the mood to open a bottle strikes.

About the winery & vineyards

Wine lovers won’t find Twenty Rows amid rolling hills and undulating vines. Rather, they’ll find the family-owned winery in downtown Napa, where they’re surrounded by dance studios, machine shops, and other commercial ventures. Yet there is some serious devotion to terroir tucked within this unorthodox facade. To wit: the husband-and-wife tandem of Lori and Brian Nuss named the winery in honor of the first block of vines Brian planted in Mt. Veeder, back when he worked with vintner and Napa cultivation pioneer Robert Craig. While that initial block is still near and dear to his heart, his deep love of the land has propelled him to scour some of Napa’s top appellations to find the perfect fruit to fit his keenly refined viticultural instincts. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as best demonstrated by Twenty Rows snagging Food and Wine Magazine’s American Wine Award for best Cab Sauv not once, but twice. To create this sumptuous Pinot Noir, Brian’s intuition has led him to the ocean-influenced landscape of the Carneros AVA. This appellation’s unmatched combination of warm days, summer fog, and concentrated windy gusts make it prime Pinot country. In Brian’s masterful hands, the tiniest slivers of Pinot expression are coaxed out, creating a delightful “everyday wine” that’s as attention-grabbing as the winery’s downtown locale.

About the winemaker

Brian Nuss’ winemaking prowess can be boiled down to one simple principle. Namely, it takes great fruit to make great wines. It’s a mantra that he started honing as a vineyard farmer in the early ‘90s, back when he helped Robert Craig transform the Mt. Veeder appellation from an overlooked hunk of land to a viticultural powerhouse. The philosophy has certainly served Brian well since he launched Twenty Rows in 2003. His deep understanding of Napa terroir enables him to find the most exemplary grapes the region has to offer, and his belief in their excellence allows him to step back and let the grapes do their thing without too much interference. It’s not fancy by any means, but it’s precisely what’s needed for him to carry out his ultimate goal of making “Napa wines you can drink every day.”

"Bing cherry crimson color, a pronounced and even nose, that is true to the vintage. Palate tastes of cherry pie, vanilla bean, pink flowers, peppercorn and dried strawberry. There is plenty of persistence in the mouth, mingling together cherry and strawberry compote, brioche toast and fresh acidity. Tannin structure is moderate, but will help age this wine for years to come. Enjoy with broiled/baked Salmon, Pork Tenderloin and seared duck breast. Fantastic now, decanting suggested and will aged for 3-7 years just splendidly."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
