This is a fantastic find and we can't wait to see how little time it will take before this great buy to disappear.  A top scoring Grand Cru St Emilion for under $30 that drinks like a wine 3 times the price....we're taking bets at the warehouse! This phenomenal expression of Bordeaux’s famed St. Emilion appellation spills all the beans indeed. Expert winemaker Jean-Philippe Fort produced a balanced, fruit-forward Grand Cru that’s a perfect snapshot of the legendary region’s 2011 essence. Those that fancy themselves as Bordeaux aficionados won’t want to miss this offer!

About the wine

An elegant St Emilion propelled by a pinpoint balance and enticing acidity. Vibrant aromas of red and black currants leap from its intense ruby robe, joined by subtle suggestions of mineral, dried herbs, and malt. A voluptuous palate expression reveals scintillating layers of candied fruits, mint, and dark chocolate. Well-structured tannins guide the journey to a long, concentrated finish.  This is a seductive Bordeaux crafted the way a Grand Cru St Emilion was meant to be experienced.

About the winery and vineyard

Chateau Mangot’s history is dating back to 1515 yet the year most oenophiles circle on the winery’s timeline is 1989. That’s when Jean-Guy and Anne-Marie Todeschini took over the chateau from Anne-Marie’s father. Nearly 30 years later, the twosome has transformed the humble winery into one of the Saint Emilion's most dynamic Grand Crus.  The undulating vines collectively represent four different types of terroir, with each subsection spinning different tales of the vineyard’s elevated landscapes and clay-limestone soil. This diversity makes the Merlot, Cab Franc, and Cab Sauv fruit they produce no-brainers for blend creation. It’s a label that ensures Jean-Guy and Anne-Marie’s vision and reputation will remain strong for years to come.

About the winemaker

Jean-Philippe Fort is St. Emilion’s viticultural go-to guy. Nearly half of the wines made by the Bordeaux-born winemaker and enologist are Grand Cru Classes, and with good reason: Nobody knows the ins and outs of this near-sacred region quite like he does. It’s an acumen partially forged from the book smarts absorbed en route to a Master’s degree in biology from the University of Bordeaux. His academic knowledge is complemented by a wealth of practical knowhow shaped through over 20 years of working with world-renowned oenologist and consultant Michel Rolland. This sterling combination of high-minded science and instinct-driven art propels an exemplary track record of winemaking excellence throughout Bordeaux and the St. Emilion; one that’s highlighted his work at such esteemed wineries as Chateau Mangot, Chateau Angelus, and Chateau Fleur Cardinale.

"What a pleasant surprise and superb value to boot! Riding shotgun, a gorgeous ruby purple color that facilitates a nose of black currants, black plum, smoke, graphite, oregano, crushed rock and clean minerality. Striking a dense core on the palate which produces plentiful unctuous dark fruits that are sustained by a freshly approachable and perhaps overlooked Bordeaux Vintage. Showing well now, however, be advised that this still has some longevity to go for years to come. Already showcasing some secondary aromas and complexity born by the noble right bank terroir. Enjoy throughout your weeknight dinners, with duck confit, herb crusted lamb rack, cassoulet, roasted chicken and pork."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
