Petar Kirilov made less than 80 cases of his latest Cab Sauv. What it lacks in production, it more than makes up in exquisite expression. Patiently created from grapes sourced from the prestigious Mount Veeder appellation, this sumptuous selection is a sublime study in structure and full-bodied intensity. Complex, pronounced aromas of blueberry, cassis, and lavender segue to a chewy transition of blackberry with a suggestion of mountain forest before moving to a long, ripe conclusion.

About the wine

Kukeri Wines are all about patience, and this astounding Cab Sauv demonstrates this motif in a massive way. Winemaker Petar Kirilov cut zero corners with the exquisite Mount Veeder AVA grapes he sourced to produce this limited production label, as its journey from vine to bottle included being aged in 100% French barrels for an impressive 37 months. The result of this marathon is a splendidly intense, well-structured red that’s on equal footing with other Mount Veeder mainstays like Robert Craig and O’Shaugnessy.  Aromatics of blueberry, lavender, cassis, graphite, and cedar burst forth from its opaque crimson cocoon. The notes transition to a dark, concentrated expressions of blackberry with a hint of mountain forest, which spread out amongst a rich, chewy mouthfeel. Fine tannins lead to a long, ripe finish. While patience is key to the creation of the Cab Sauv, its limited production makes exhibiting the same patience to purchase the label a potentially regrettable decision.

About the winery and vineyard

Kukeri Wines derives its name from an ancient Dionysian-fueled ritual. Yet that’s not the lone reason acclaimed winemaker Petar Kirilov’s boutique winery is symbolic of partying. A miniscule number of Kukeri barrels are produced annually, making each eagerly anticipated bottle that can be acquired feel like the basis for a celebration. The limited production speaks to Petar’s passionately focused winemaking philosophy; a deliberately paced, technically polished process built upon sourcing excellent fruit and careful deployment of modern technique. For this label, Petar turns to the steep slopes of Meadowcroft Vineyard, located within the confines of the highly celebrated Mount Veeder AVA. The vineyard’s 1,200 foot elevation allows it to fully bathe in the cooling effect of nearby San Pablo Bay, while its volcanic soils induces hardy struggle from the vines. This combination produces tiny batches of berries virtually bursting with intensity and full-bodied power. In Petar’s capable hands, they produce a label that may be the center of numerous fetes.

About the winemaker

Petar Kirilov knows how to guide a wine from good to great. It’s been that way since the native Bulgarian landed in Napa in 2003, not too long after he obtained a Master’s degree in winemaking. His uncanny knack for deploying science-driven knowledge with the finessed touch of a viticultural artist allowed him to help create a wide host of acclaimed Napa labels, such as those produced by Meadowcroft and Foyt. He applies his singular skill set to his own Kukeri label, strictly narrowing his vision to Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes culled from acclaimed appellations like Mount Veeder and Russian River Valley. The results of his hyper-focus are small lot boutique wines that are low in production but high on acclaim.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
