Amy Aiken’s killer Cab skills speak for themselves. It’s the reason why whenever she drops a new Meander selection onto the marketplace, Cab lovers of all stripes scramble for position in the hopes of snagging a bottle. Made from exquisite grapes culled from two of Napa’s most desirable, legacy-defining vineyards, Amy’s produced a complex, opulent vixen whose rich, layered fruit and seductively supple mouthfeel almost requires a trip to the confession booth after its enjoyment. This is a label that won’t wait around for the hesitant. 56 cases available!

About the wine

Great vineyards plus great talent equals great wine. While winemaker Amy Aiken may not be quick to admit to the second part of that equation, the fact that she helped Joseph Phelps imprint Insignia onto the wine world is sufficient proof of her excellence. Her deep, passion-driven viticultural acumen is the guiding force behind this superb study in Cab Sauv fruit and Napa Valley expression. Once again, her pursuit of viticultural perfection leads her two of Napa’s most historic vineyards, including one whose vines were first planted when some guy name Lincoln was in the White House. She’s painstakingly plucked the very best fruit from these vines and unlocked their secrets with locksmith precision; producing a decadent diva driven by indulgently rich fruit and layered complexity. Ripe blackberry, coffee, cocoa, cherry cola, mocha, and baking spice boldly proclaim their presence on the nose. The journey transitions to a downright unctuous burst of jam flavors that softly and supply spread over the mid-palate, allowing for seductive notes of licorice and chocolate to surface. Plush tannins guide the experience to a melty, mousse-like finish. This is quintessential Napa Cab, and its limited production naturally positions it to be a prized possession for any serious wine aficionado.

About the winery & vineyards

Meander is all about pursuing the best Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa can produce. It’s a tall order since Cab Sauv is the region’s de facto calling card. Yet since the soul behind the limited-production label is Joseph Phelps protege Amy Aiken, it’s an ambition true oenophiles know will be met with every vintage. Since launching the winery in 2000, she’s been wholly committed to sourcing Cab fruit from vines whose status skips right past the “respected” realm and lands firmly in “iconic” status. While the fact that she helped bring bottles like Joseph Phelps’ “Insignia” to life back in the day gives her carte blanche to any vines she chooses, she focuses her sourcing for this sumptuous selection on two of Napa’s most historic vineyards. The first vineyard, Morisoli Vineyard, is 53 acres of prime real estate planted in the world-famous Rutherford Bench. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, this vineyard exhibits near-perfect expression of the soils, climate, and environmental factors that conspire to form the Rutherford AVA’s legendary “Rutherford dust.” The second vineyard sourced, Lewelling Vineyards, planted their first vines in the St. Helena appellation toward the end of the Civil War. This fifth-generation vineyard produces Cab fruit that vintners drool over, as its alluvial soil and warmer climate produce decadent Cab Sauv fruit of opulent structure and mouthwatering acidity. Amy’s remarkable viticultural acumen expertly marries the riches of these dual viticultural landmarks into a remarkable selection that proves the winery’s pursuit of Cab Sauv greatness is more than justified.

About the winemaker

It can be argued that Amy Aiken is Napa’s Queen of Cab. Her coronation began in earnest; she honed her viticultural acumen at the prestigious UC Davis, earning a Master’s degree in 1989. Her career shifted into overdrive from there; her first gig after obtaining her degree was working with at the incomparable Joseph Phelps Vineyards. She applied her fingerprints to all of Phelps’ region-defining Cabs, from the world-renowned Insignia label to the critically adored selections Backus and Eisele. The absurdly excellent Cab skills she developed during her years at Phelps have served as Meander’s cornerstone since she launched the winery in 2000. While her viticultural star continues to ascend, she remains firmly committed to taking a gentle approach to winemaking; one that combines carefully measured mix of traditional technique and modern innovation.

94 pts - Daniel Sarao, Wine Director Buchon et al, Owner Velo Pizzeria

"On the nose it shows ripe and round notes of blackberry, bing cherry and subtle licorice.  Full bodied on the pallet with soft dusty tannins and flavors of dark berries, bittersweet chocolate mint and pipe tobacco. The wine lingers on the palate with minerals loam & earth. Drink now, wine will open and show best after 30 -45 minutes of decanting."

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
