Typically, wines don’t contain playful allusions to hip-hop, punk, or skate culture. Then again, Mouton Noir isn’t a typical brand. Former Top Sommelier Andre Hueston Mack has managed to bridge the chasm that far too often separates excellent wine and affordability. The mission for OPP (Other People Pinot) is to provide a superior yet budget friendly Pinot Noir for the vast majority of us who fall outside the realm of the “1%". Marked by a fruit-driven profile and a vibrant acidity, the highly addictive OPP demonstrates why Oregon is considered one of the world’s foremost Pinot Noir playgrounds.

About the wine

The very label of Pinot is evocative. After all, there aren’t too many wines on the market whose name riffs on early-90s hip-hop anthems. Yet the selection’s full moniker, Other People’s Pinot, demonstrates Mouton Noir founder/winemaker Andre Heuston Mack’s unmatched ability to make layered statements with his handcrafted selections. Andre’s intent behind this wine is to provide an elite viticultural experience for those that fall outside the realm of the “1%.” He does so by working with deeply trusted vineyards up and down the Willamette Valley to find Pinot grapes that can do nothing short of delivering on his ambitious intentions. His dogged pursuit to bring excellence to wine lovers of all stripes is a transcendent expression of classic Willamette Pinot; a balanced beauty whose wild red fruit is calmly subdued by earthy nuance. The experience kicks off with an aromatic swirl of spicy red cherry and gingery earth spice. A juicy palate transition is marked by bright fruit, floral essence, and an elegant herbal undercurrent before finishing fresh. It’s Pinot that stands out from the crowd, and it will certainly stand out within the confines of any wine lover’s collection.

About the winery & vineyards

Mouton Noir is the ultimate example of what can happen when dreams are pursued. This Willamette Valley winery is the brainchild of Andre Hueston Mack, the viticultural impresario that left a cushy job in finance to follow his heart. The property itself is the culmination of a remarkable viticultural journey that saw Andre blossom from wine geek to world-class somm. It also provides the perfect platform for Andre to gleefully siphon pretentiousness from the wine world, whether he’s creating an expression of Willamette Valley terroir or a T-shirt that forges a link between viticulture and hip-hop, punk, or skate culture. Regardless of the medium Andre is dabbling in, he’s poised to make a statement, and this phenomenal Pinot Noir is proof of this mindset. He’s forged deep, trusted relationships with some of the most acclaimed vineyards in the Willamette Valley; an appellation whose cool maritime climate and volcanic soils promote Pinot conditions that rival Burgundy and Alsace. The connection Andre enjoys gives him access to the AVA’s choicest fruit, and such carte blanche is not wasted. This is a brilliant selection designed to bring the complete scope of Oregon excellence to the masses, regardless of their station in life. One may even call it a dream come true.

About the winemaker

In the early 2000s, Andre Hueston Mack left a upwardly mobile career in banking to bank on his passion for wine. A gutsy move, but one that quickly started paying dividends. While he was a somm in Texas, his infectious zeal for sharing his encyclopedic knowledge with guests caught the eye of the esteemed Chaine des Rotisseurs, who crowned him Best Young Sommelier in America in 2003. The award was a springboard that launched him to prestigious somm gigs at Thomas Keller’s pillars of epicurean excellence, French Laundry in Napa Valley and Per Se in New York City. By 2007, his desire to make what was inside the bottles he was serving was too big to contain, and this creative yen serves as the backbone for his renowned Mouton Noir label today. Andre’s capacity for craftsmanship isn’t just limited to wine, either. When he’s not in the cellar, he can be found designing coloring books and wine-themed T-shirts.

“Purple ruby hues with a sprinkle of violet shade. Lush red fruits coat the palate and deliver a classic opulent texture full of bright juicy flavors. This wine is palate refreshing and reminiscent of Cru Beaujolais with wild strawberries and young red fruit. Drink this over the next few years, or slightly chilled and bring to a BBQ this weekend! Lots to love here and the perfect summertime party wine…”

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
