Patience is not your prime virtue!!? Well that's okay because the stunning 2006 Pedras Ristow Cab is ready to show you its full potential and complexityPedras (Rock in Portuguese) is above all a family affair for owners Cecilia and Wil Harris.  Ever since its first release in 2005, the wine has always been sourced from the rocky Ristow Vineyard which was planted by Cecilia's father 30 years ago. Crafted by super talented  winemaker Jamey Whetstone, Pedras is best defined by a brilliant lusciousness and some velvety tannins. This Estate Cab is a true stunner and a great opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and (re)visit Napa's splendid 2006 vintage!

About the wine

The rousing success of Pedras’ debut 2005 Cab Sauv left hardcore oenophiles and casual Cab devotees wagging their tongues in anticipation of a follow-up. Winemaker Jamey Whetstone certainly did not disappoint. Once again, he returns to proprietors Cecilia and Wil Harris’ family-owned Ristow Estate vineyards, sourcing succulent grapes whose intense complexity practically burst through their skin. Under his gentle, meticulous hand, the fruit’s intricate nuance is allowed to fully emerge. This development results in a deep purple masterwork of pure Cab Sauv expression; a luscious delight that’s driven by gregarious fruit and subtle roundness. Intense aromatic bursts of fresh plums, dark cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant are subdued by essences of bittersweet chocolate, minerals, exotic spice, and toasted oak. This sumptuous swirl is welcomed onto the palate with a round, smooth, and resonant mouthfeel. Velvety tannins carry these essences to a lengthy finish. A mere 500 cases of this killer Cab were produced, and this scarcity makes it a prized addition to any wine lover’s collection.

About the winery & vineyards

Loosely translated, the word Pedras is the Portuguese word for “stone.” It couldn’t be more fitting of a moniker for this special winery. When proprietors Cecilia and Wil Harris launched the property in 2005, they did so with the vision of making the family-owned vines from the Ristow Estate’s Quinta de Pedras Vineyard the cornerstone for their exquisite, limited production Cab Sauv. Their dedication to the vines Cecilia’s father initially planted in 1988 has made the duo and their wines certifiable Napa rock stars. Make no mistake: these vines are worthy of such wholesale devotion. Located on the eastern side of the Silverado Trail just south of the world-class Stags Leap District, the vines struggle through the rocky hillside soils and are met with dramatic diurnal temperatures. It’s a combination that yields a limited amount of fruit, but the grapes that do emerge are renowned for their remarkable intensity and deep complexity. Vintage after vintage, this exceptional fruit not only produces phenomenal wine, but it also helps define the magic of the vineyard’s legacy; one that will be part of Napa lore for generations to come.

About the winemaker

Jamey Whetstone’s willingness to do anything needed to make exquisite wine makes him the perfect soul to propel this label’s spirit. To wit: when he was at Turley Cellars, he managed over 200 organically farmed acres of grapes, planted 30 acres of hillside vineyards, and learned to speak fluent Spanish. He infuses this enthusiasm with an internationally-tinged acumen honed from a stint at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. These elements meld into a deft viticultural touch that shines brightly through this selection. Jamey has since moved on, leaving Pedras’ winemaking duties to superstar consulting winemaker Kari Auringer. A former graphic designer, Kari has spent the last decade applying an artistic approach to a mind-boggling cadre of highly-adored cult labels, such as Plume Napa Valley, Silver Trident Winery, and Bryter Estates. She brings an infectious passion to each vintage she creates; one that’s equally driven by art, science, and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and kick up dirt in the vineyard.

"A brilliant ruby purple color meets an enticing nose with a perfume of blackberry, boysenberry, succulent plums, violets, rose petal, well-balanced oak and aromatic tension. The palate is pristine with lots of sophisticated fruit, tart cherry, black raspberries, red plums leading up to a valiant bodied wine. The refined tannin structure flaunts its class in each sip leaving you wanting to refill your glass. This wine is showing well presently, bursting with vibrant energy but will continue to drink well over the next 3-7 years. A top value from a reliable Napa Valley Vintage. Food: New York Strip with Béarnaise Sauce and Chanterelle Mushrooms."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
