Winemaking phenom Joe Wagner does his legendary bloodline proud with this stupendous single-vineyard pinot noir. The Dairyman Pinot is Grand Cru quality - pour a glass and behold it's ever-changing awesomeness.  It's like tasting several great wines in one.  No wonder millions of Vivino users voted it the #7 Pinot in all of 2014! A brightly hued powder keg of immense fruit, audacious structure, and nuanced character producing a wine experience wine-lovers will rave about until the cows come home.

About the wine

Dairyman Vineyard was bathed in a blend of cool fog and ultra-sunny, warm summer days in 2013, producing pinot grapes that couldn’t wait to be plucked. Joe Wagner obliged the fruit’s desires with an early harvest, and the results of his intuition created a bright crimson masterwork defined by fantastic structure and silky, sensual tannins. Ripe plums and black cherry appear prominently on the nose, accompanied by nuances of smoke and dried herbs. These pleasing aromas seamlessly segue to abundant ripe cherry, fresh raspberry, and cranberry, which are tempered ever so slightly by the presence of baking spice and vanilla. A well-rounded mouthfeel transitions the expressions to a delightful mix of savory and sweet, as cedar, cocoa powder, fig jam, and ripe blackberry guide to a lingering finish.

About the winery

What’s in a name? In the case of Belle Glos, the moniker is a virtual study in Napa history. When Owner/winemaker Joe Wagner launched the winery, he named it after his grandmother, Caymus Vineyards co-founder Lorna Belle Glos Wagner. But this is not the only way Wagner and his winery honors the previous four generations of his family’s winemaking legacy. His dogged pursuit of perfect grapes and astute knowledge of the delicate dance between terroir and weather leads to the creation of supple, sumptuous wines that cleanly express the unmistakable charm of the Napa/Sonoma region. It’s a character that acknowledges the past even as Wagner ensures its current and future relevance.

About the vineyard

Dairyman Vineyard used to be a dairy farm and pastureland. Today, Joseph Wagner uses its acreage to produce a more evolved liquid. This vineyard has flourished since the first humble blocks were planted in 2000, soaking up the Russian River Valley’s cool, Petaluma Gap-guided fog like fresh toast absorbs melted butter. The one-two punch of the alluvial soil and low-vigor rootstock provide the vines with an ideal level of restraint as they flourish, while the coastal climate lengthens the growing season. These elements join forces to cajole small, highly concentrated grapes that boast giant flavor.

About the winemaker

Joe Wagner’s winemaking prowess isn’t just about crafting perfect pinot. It’s about holding up a family legacy. The 5th generation winemaker and grandson of Caymus Vineyards co-founder Lorna Belle Glos Wagner does right by his bloodline by doing right by the terroir, digging into the minutiae of each block like a veteran farmer tending to crops.  These deep agricultural dives are balanced by scientific sensibility come harvest time, where technique and finesse are used to coax the maximum amount of character from the grapes he nurtured. His passionate pursuit of supreme viticultural pleasure isn’t bound by the confines of his winery; his expertise has inspired him to launch several popular labels like Elouan and Carne Humana through his firm Copper Cane Wines & Provisions.

955 points - Chris Stanley, Certified Sommelier

"The 2013 Belle Glos Dairyman RRV continues Joey's Wagner's legacy with his 'outside of the box' winemaking approach that continues to jostle the industry. Intensely dark, and not just for Pinot Noir, the grape varietal takes a wild dark turn in Wagner's capable hands. Rich black cherry, ripe red plum, blackberry-raisin jam,  with masculine characteristics or dried herbs usually saved for Cab and Zin lovers. While many critics ratings remain timid and speculative of Wagner's ways, it's hard not to take notice. The consuming public has voted a big thumbs up, and it's hard not to agree. Kudos!"

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
