From the heart of Montalcino, Casanova di Neri is an icon in Italy with an unrivaled reputation for Sangiovese. A consistent Wine Spectator Top 100 wine and Parker darling, Giacomo Neri’s expansion across Tuscany--which now includes 120 acres and four distinct sites--has been slow and steady, and is overcoming the competition with every collectible release.
The 2011 is beautifully approaching its prime with maraschino cherries, violets and red fruit. Incredibly elegant, Neri’s transformation of Sangiovese is artistic and wild--a true expression of Montalcino and no-holds barred bold red. Snapped up immediately upon release, we got all we could of this collectible gem, but it won’t last long...
About the wine
Winemaker and Casanova di Neri founder Giacomo Neri puts things simply: “Our greatest pride is our vineyards: their high quality and their history.” After tasting the Tenuta Nuova we understand why--Neri’s Brunello is the real deal.
Since 1971, Casanova di Neri has been snapping up prime Brunello acreage and climbing up the ranks in Montalcino--not an easy feat considering the multi-century history of Neri’s competition. Multilayered and elegant, the 2011 Tenuta Nuova is artistic and rich with complexity that rivals Biondi Santi, Soldera, and Tuscan royalty. And with over 5,000 Vivino reviews, critics aren’t the only ones championing Brunello’s newest hero.
Full-bodied and silky-smooth, the 2011 release is still young with ample red fruit and classic Sangiovese spice. Leather, tobacco and herbs form the baseline over fine tannins, promising a fantastic evolution for those patient enough to hold onto this bottle for another three to five years. Casanova di Neri may be Tuscany’s newest icon, but its reputation guarantees this wine won’t last, so don’t blink.

"This is another fabulous wine from Giacomo Neri. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a deeply layered expression with bold tones of dark fruit that are softened and enhanced by spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. The wine is very beautiful and polished with slightly less depth and complexity compared the outstanding (100 point) vintage that precedes it. Despite the vintage variation, this is a wine of enormous pedigree and importance. It is generous and confident with a presentation that offers purity, intensity and persistence."
