It’s easy to drum up interest in Cenyth merely by pointing out that it is crafted by the daughter of superstar winemaker Pierre Seillan. After all, Pierre’s mind-blowing Verite label has racked up a ridiculous amount of 100pt perfect scores from Parker over the years. Yet as tremendous label demonstrates, winemaker Helene Seillan doesn’t need to lean on family legend to garner her own deserving attention. This splendid Bordeaux-style blend shows off just how large her game is. She artfully guides a mélange of fruit from some of Sonoma County’s top vineyards to produce a decadent yet elegant wine whose sharp balance and exquisite layered fruit evokes a seductive swirl of Old World charm and New World sophistication.

About the wine

2012’s historic vintage possessed the power to turn good vintners into superstars. It also turned genuine superstars like Cenyth winemaker Helene Seillan into a young legend; one that further allowed her to emerge as something far greater than just being the daughter of Verite mastermind Pierre Seillan. This iteration of her critically acclaimed label finds her selecting the choicest Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, and Merlot grapes possible from a Murderer’s Row of Sonoma County AVAs, like Chalk Hill and Alexander Valley. Ever the maestro, Helene conducts these grapes to assemble into a symphonic Bordeaux-style blend whose graceful fruit essence and pinpoint balance showcase the sheer sophistication that makes the region a pure global force. Sweet floral notes seamlessly meld with darts of spice on the nose. The aromatics make a lush transition to the palate, where its opulent, medium- to full-bodied structure leaves plenty of room for layers of plum, dark red cherry, blueberries, cedar, and licorice to sensually emerge.  Ultra-fine tannins lead to a long, fresh, fruity finish. This brilliant blend is all the proof an oenophile needs to realize that, while the grape doesn’t fall far from the vine when legends are concerned, it rolls away just enough to emerge from the vine’s shadow.

About the winery & vineyards

How does a relatively young label like Cenyth command so much viticultural gravitas? Just follow its bloodline. The label itself is a collaboration between winemaker Helene Seillan and artist Julia Jackson. These two childhood friends are the second generation of a bond initially created by groundbreaking wine impresarios Pierre Seillan and Jess Jackson. The duo’s unmatched combination of winemaking skill and entrepreneurial knowhow led to the creation of axis-tilting labels like Chateau Lassegue, Arcanum, and Verite, the latter of which captured a whopping seven 100-point Parker scores. The partnership between these two mighty men continues to flourish through their incredible daughters in a most transcendent manner. Every bottle of Cenyth serves as fantastic testimony to the duo’s sheer artistry; Julia’s breathtaking artwork festoons each label, while Helene’s brilliantly complex interpretation of Sonoma County’s inimitable landscape provides drinkable art within the bottle. For this stupendous label, Helene’s palette consists of grapes sourced from some of Sonoma County’s true rock star appellations like Chalk Hill, Alexander Valley, and Knights Valley. Her deft craftsmanship and intuitive knowledge of the landscape’s eclectic nature allows her to extract nuance that other vintners would skip right over, thus creating a stunning Bordeaux-style blend that stands up to the stuff of St. Emilion. Pierre and Jess would be proud.

About the winemaker

The strength of Helene Seillan’s viticultural roots are undeniable. It’s what happens when your father is Pierre Seillan, the guy whose region-defining Verite label racked up seven perfect 100 Parker scores. Yet as the immense craftsmanship she’s done through the Cenyth label shows, she’s rapidly made a name that stands mightily on her own accord. Naturally, the cultivation of her noteworthy skills was a family affair; she spent her teen years helping her dad in the cellars, and she began serving as Pierre’s assistant winemaker at the family’s Bordeaux estate in 2006. This tutelage, combined with her degree in Viticulture and Oenology from Bordeaux’s prestigious Institut Rural de Vayres, paid off massive dividends at a rather young age: She was just 23 when she made Cenyth’s initial, mid-90-point gem. And while her pedigree is impressive, the fingerprints of her singular style cover each of her creation. It’s an approach fueled by a deep understanding of the Sonoma County landscape. This studious study in terroir consistently leads to transcendent Bordeaux-style blends marked in complex nuance.

95 pts - Alex Casella, WSET Advanced

"A vivid purple reddish color that looks extremely classy just on appearance. A refined nose of blackberry compote, mountain boysenberry, a mélange of dark brambleberry and kirsch liquor. This has tons going on in the palate with loads of black fruit, black pepper, framboise, blueberry and raspberry reduction, grilled herbs, and crushed rocks.  Abundant character shaped naturally and reminiscent of high quality 2nd growth right bank Bordeaux. I have loved and followed this wine since its inception and inaugural vintage in 2009. Hard to resist now, but will hold for next 5-10 years in the cellar. Pick up a case or bottle, you will be pleased you did."

92 pts - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2012 Red Wine Sonoma County is one of the under the radar jewels of the vintage. Sweet floral notes meld into espresso, plum, dark red cherry and cedar notes. Perfumed, expressive and impeccably balanced, the 2012 impresses for its overall sense of proportion and harmony. The style is rich and quite textured, but younger vines and an overall approach that seeks to preserve freshness give the wine considerable energy. There is a lot to like here, including the price."

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
