The release of Leviathan from former Screaming Eagle winemaker Andy Erickson is destined to be very popular among seasoned Napa wine lovers. We are thrilled to offer the heavyweight 2013 Leviathan at the best price in the country.  A powerful and complex Napa dominate Red Blend whose layered expression of terroir yields delight at every turn. This is an offer that wine lovers won’t want to miss!

About the wine

When your wine label only produces one selection a year, you’re going to have pressure to deliver the goods. In the case of Leviathan, this deliverance is never in doubt. Andy Erickson, the former Screaming Eagle vintner, has a keen eye for sublime fruit and deft blending touch, which has made its release an annual calendar-circling event for critics and wine lovers alike. This year, Andy has canvassed Napa Valley to track down the finest representation of Cab Sauv, Syrah, Merlot, and Cab Franc from 2013’s excellent vintage. Andy’s precision produces a breathtaking heavyweight driven by eclectic flavor complexity. Pronounced aromas of brambly fruit, cocoa, and cigar box announce their presence in boisterous manner. The nose segues to a layered, balanced waltz of cherries, violets, licorice, and pickled plum. Supple tannins lead to a smooth, savory finish. This is a sumptuous siren song that seems destined to knock even the most discerning of oenophiles overboard.

About the winery & vineyards

Leviathan isn’t just a side project. It’s the side project of Favia winemaker Andy Erickson, the winemaking superstar and blending savant once charged with crafting the uber-cult Screaming Eagle wine. Andy launched Leviathan with one simple goal in mind: to create one solitary mind-blowing red wine each year. The Leviathan label is simply a representation of the best red fruit Andy could find within a given vintage, coalesced into a distinctive and harmonious voice. These vocal sources change every year, and Andy isn’t one to give out specifics. Yet one can be assured that the Cab Sauv, Syrah, Merlot, and Cab Franc he plucked for 2013 came from places he’s willing to hang his reputation upon. Andy’s eye for great grapes and masterful skills makes Leviathan one side project that stands front and center in the world of Napa wines.

About the winemaker

As a winemaker, Andy Erickson’s always down for a challenge. This passionate pursuit for acumen-testing projects stands at the core of his 20+viticultural career; a critically acclaimed path that’s included tutelage under impresarios like John Kongsgaard and David Abreu and a prized stint at the legendary Screaming Eagle. It’s a drive that has certainly keeps Andy busy these days. When he’s not applying his otherworldly blending skills to Leviathan or overseeing the wine production of his own Favia label, he’s lending his expertise as a consultant for places like Dalla Valle Vineyards. and Mayacamas.

95 pts - Alex Casella, WSET Advanced

"A brilliant black plum color that meets a hedonistic but refined nose with macerated blueberries, raspberries, spice box, crafted oak with hints of cedar, cocoa, and burnt sage. This inquisitive palate is in development with nuances of seductive black, blue and red fruits with tons of spice and elegance. All the fruit is outlined nevertheless, a large circumference of balanced tannin, structure, and liveliness endure through the finish.  Drinkable now, but recommend holding on for a few years prior to popping the cork and will be enjoyable over the next decade. Pair with grilled meats, stews and wild mushroom risotto."

92 pts - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"Andy Erickson's Leviathan is gorgeous once again in 2013. Plump, juicy and fruit forward, the 2013 packs a serious punch. Still it is impossible not to notice that this year Leviathan is made in a more aromatic, lifted style than in the past, when the wine has been much more bombastic. Readers looking for a supple, exuberant Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that requires little cellaring should check out the 2013 Leviathan."

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
