Rob Lawson’s mad Cabernet-making skills have warranted 100 point ratings from no less than Robert Parker. This penchant for perfection gleams brightly through this phenomenal wine, produced in partnership with former NFL quarterback and Notre Dame legend Rick Mirer. Blessed with irresistible aromatics of dry rose petals and dark chocolate and packed with intense fruit flavors with a flirty peck of spice, it’s clear the duo have hit paydirt with this indulgent label. Time to kick off the start of the season in style!

About the wine

Winemaker extraordinaire Rob Lawson scored a touchdown with the 2012 vintage. The mind-bending 2012 iteration picks off the opposition and runs it back for another score. Lawson’s process of destemming and hand sorting grapes, two-week fermentation, and 20 month barrel aging in French Oak coaxes new sensory experiences this year without sacrificing body, hue, or enjoyment. Aromatic swirls of blackberry, dark chocolate, dry rose petals, pipe tobacco, and baking spices enticingly announces its presence in the glass. The wine seamlessly transitions from nose to palate, offering up soft initial waves of dark cherry and nuanced leather before segueing into intense bursts of ripe plum kissed by blips of cinnamon, cedar, and vanilla. The rich tannins and balanced acidity carries the taste to a lengthy, clean, and sophisticated finish.

About the winery and vineyard

What’s in a name? In the case of Mirror Wine, there’s plenty. The winery’s moniker is a riff on co-owner and former NFL quarterback/Notre Dame legend Rick Mirer, who partnered with rock star Napa Valley winemaker Rob Lawson to create this St. Helena masterwork. The name also describes the winery’s humble beginnings, which began with two Oakville vineyards “mirroring” each other. While the play on words and pedigree may garner initial attention, wine lovers remain engaged because of the duo’s pursuit crafting exemplary Cabernet Sauvignons from Oakville and St. Helena grapes. Their passionate chase results in cult Napa cabs that are gone in three yards and a cloud of dust. Rob isn’t at liberty to pinpoint exactly which St. Helena, Oakville, and Yountville vineyard sources he uses to create this killer Cab. But he doesn’t need to tip his hand. After all, his role as GM at Napa Wine Company and partnership with several popular boutique labels grants him access to the most exquisite grapes either appellation has to offer. One indulgent sip of the 2012 Mirror Cabernet Napa Valley is all that is needed to know that Lawson uses his unmatched vineyard-sourcing power for the ultimate greater good.

About the winemaker

To say winemaking is in Rob Lawson’s DNA is an understatement. His bones are coded with the soul of Napa, as his father and grandfather had a hand in shaping the region’s reputation through the dual viticultural behemoths Beringer and Mondavi. Rob not only carried that legacy forward through his venture Napa Wine Company, he helped re-invent the region’s winemaking philosophies by helping grow its boutique Cabernet Sauvignon business. Over the years Lawson has worked with heavyweights like Helen Turley, Paul Hobbs, and the late Denis Malbec to craft unforgettable, worth-every-penny Cabs defined by high quality and miniscule production. His unparalleled combination of bloodline, collaborative acumen, and sheer craftsmanship has given him the well-earned reputation of a winemaking master.

95-96 points, Brian Whitaker, Sommelier/GM

"Fleshy layered black fruit, dried fruits, mocha dusted, toast, with a hint of black pepper. Deep, dark, and dense with a rich mouth-feel. Immense complexity, balance, and overall character. Well enjoyed. Recommended Pairing: Bistecca alla Fiorentina"

94+ points, Chris Stanley, Certified Sommelier

"The 2012 Mirror Cabernet is epic! Rich oozy black fruit pours from the glass giving off dark black cherry, blackberry, cassis with a tantalizing spice accented oak finish. Great vintage on a small production cult classic; cellar collectable."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
