A special treat today! Here is your chance to secure an amazing deal on a first-time release Cabernet Sauvignon destined for greatness. Loosely translated, “Otra Vez” is Spanish for “Again.” It’s the perfect name for this estate label; its very existence is owed to winemaking legend Vince Arroyo’s desire to start a brand new winery, some 40 years after he launched his first one. Just as he did at Vincent Arroyo Winery for decades, Vince turns to his Calistoga estate vines to get the ball rolling; this time around, he skillfully extracts every last drop of character from the killer Cab fruit he’s sourced. The result is a gregarious, nuanced beauty whose sublime complexity is matched by its tiptoe balance. This label will instantly add new life and old sophistication to any collection.

About the wine

2013 marks the debut of this special estate label, and Vince Arroyo couldn’t have picked a better time to launch its existence. After all, the 2013 vintage held its own quite well against 2012’s near-historic epicness, providing a venerable smorgasbord of Cab grapes for him to choose from. He didn’t have to go into uncharted territory to find the perfect fruit. He simply returned to the Calistoga estate vines that had served him so well when he ran the show at Vincent Arroyo winery.  Using his signature approach of simply coaxing whatever tale the Cab grapes had lurking behind their skins, Vince constructs a gentle giant that hangs its hat on pinpoint balance and generous complexity. A vibrant flurry of floral notes greet the nose to get the wheels spinning. Things shift into overdrive on the palate, as extroverted layers of cedar, black currant, spice box, and crushed earth spread along the palate with a lusciously pure texture. Sleekly integrated tannins provide a long finished spiked by bright red currant. It’s a remarkable debut, even if it’s a debut purely in the technical sense.

About the winery & vineyards

Most people take up a hobby or a sport to pass the time when they retire. After Vince Arroyo handed the keys to the viticultural kingdom known as Vincent Arroyo Winery to his kids, he finally had make more wine. Otra Vez is the result of Vince’s attempt to take it easy. The label, which appropriately means “again” in Spanish,” is a premium estate wine that possesses all of the earmarks of a label festooned with Vince’s highly-praised fingerprints. His simplistic style of connecting with the terroir and drawing out every speck of character possible allowed him to grow a four decade-long empire that mushroomed from producing a few hundred to over 8,000 cases. He sees no reason to change that with Otra Vez, and the wine world is the happy benefactor. For his inaugural label, Vince heads to a familiar spot: the Calistoga estate vineyards that helped him rise to Napa stardom. Here, he finds plump Cab Sauv grapes that have basked in the AVA’s trademark diurnal temperature swings and strained in its rich volcanic soil, sucking up the terroir’s characteristics like a high-powered vacuum cleaner. The result is a remarkable beginning for a label whose maker seems to have no end to his legend.

About the winemaker

There’s nothing fancy about Vince Arroyo’s approach to winemaking. His philosophy is simply to do the best you possibly can with the land that’s available. It’s a stripped-down mindset that’s served him quite well in his four-decade viticultural journey; one that’s taken him from being a mechanical engineer with a dream to a critically-acclaimed winemaker with a cult following. The Otra Vez label is his “retirement project” of sorts, having left the lion’s share of care for the eponymous winery he launched back in 1974 into the very capable hands of his daughter Adrian and son-in-law Matt.  Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s completely hands-off when it comes to his original venture. It’s not uncommon to see him on the tractor, in the cellar, or amongst the vines, checking in on his treasure with the passion of a young vintner with something to prove.

96 pts - Alex Casella, WSET Advanced

"Color of ruby purple with a red hue shadow. Dark berries, red cherry, violet, ground spice, eucalyptus emerge from the glass upon first swirl.  A classic Napa Cabernet palate of dark fruits, blackberry, coffee, cinnamon and cocoa and eucalyptus come together beautifully upon first taste. Finishing with lots of pure fruit matching a medium plus structure that harmoniously ends with finely structured tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink now (decant prior to consuming) or hold in the cellar 5-10 years. Food: Herb Crusted Pork Chop, Tournedos of Filet Mignon in Herb Red Wine Jus."

95 pts - California Wine Advisors

"Opening with a gorgeous floral nose, this striking and expressive Cabernet was clearly made with quality fruit and care.  Copious amounts of black currant, cedar, crushed earth and spice box carry through with a very pleasing texture that suggests purity.  Integrated tannins and balanced with precision, this Cabernet follows through leaving a clean, vibrant and lengthy red currant finish.  This is a beautiful example of a quality Napa Cabernet that is capable of aging and affordable."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
