The Hirondelle vineyard is an undisputed gem in Napa Valley with a 40-year tradition of excellence in Cabernet Sauvignon all thanks to Clos du Val.

The crown jewel of Clos du Val’s production, and the wine that led the famed Stag’s Leap estate to stardom in the 1976 Judgement of Paris tasting, this beauty rarely escapes the barrel room without allocation. Prime Cabernet real estate makes Hirondelle exceptionally age-worthy, with velvety tannins, layers of plummy fruit, and an everlasting finish.

A renewed focus on balance in the vineyard is making it even tougher (and more expensive) than ever to track down elusive Hirondelle bottles. Luckily, we secured a precious few cases from the robust 2014 vintage--but they won’t last long!

About the wine

From the heart of Stag’s Leap, Clos du Val’s iconic Hirondelle Vineyard is a Cabernet Sauvignon whose legacy is likely to outlive us all.

The crown jewel of Clos du Val’s estate wine program, Hirondelle sits atop gravelly loam soil that gives hearty Cabernet vines perfect drainage and minerals for growing concentrated, complex grapes. Though 2014 was a warm and difficult season, quality remained off the charts for a third straight vintage in Napa, giving winemaker Ted Henry ample space to craft another chart-topping Cabernet. Ripe blueberry and plum aromas dominate the 100% Cab, leading to a full-bodied palate that moves from fresh fruit to minerality and fine-grained tannins.

It’s been over 40 years since Clos Du Val proved itself at the Judgement of Paris, and the new regime is proving it has more than what it takes to compete on the global wine stage.

“Deep, inky and enveloping, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Hirondelle Estate Vineyard captures all the elements that make Stags Leaps Cabernets so compelling. A host of lavender, mint, sage, graphite and crème de cassis notes flesh out in an effortless, noble Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with notable depth and intensity.” Antonio Galloni

"From choice blocks on the Stag's Leap Estate, this bold, beautifully structured Hirondelle Cabernet has red berry fruit aromas that mingle with red berries and lofty tobacco leaf spice notes. The wine is supple with sweet dark plum, red currant and ripe black cherry notes, hints of cassis, and blackberry undertones supported by powerful yet polished tannins that soften with a good decant. The finish is long, and highlighted by alluring flavors of dark chocolate.

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
