Ulysses is a Grecian hero in drinkable form. Layered with warm spice, licorice, minerality and the bold fruit that Oakville is famous for delivering, Ulysses is emerging as the valley’s latest must-have Cabernet. From the prestigious owner of Bordeaux’s Petrus and Napa’s Dominus, Ulysses is an extraordinary single-vineyard wine lauded by the wine press. Trust us, this wine won’t last, and it’s value won’t drop!

About the wine

Christian Moueix couldn’t have picked a better vintage to launch Ulysses. Indeed, 2012 is already being lauded as one of the harvests in Napa history, poised with the power to make run of the mill vintners shine. Of course, Christian is far from being “run of the mill,” as the perfect Parker scores he’s achieved through his Dominus Estate label demonstrate. For this exciting limited production label launch, Christian turns to the project’s meticulously kept Oakville estate vineyard to source Cab Sauv and a touch of Bordeaux varietals reminiscent of the jaw-dropping fruit he curated while bringing Chateau Petrus to world prominence. He carefully shepherds this fruit from vine to bottle, deftly imparting the inimitable wisdom he’s accumulated during his decorated 45-year career. The result of this well-honed process is a lilting, fresh-faced expression of Napa terroir; a voluptuous masterwork marked by ripe fruit and seemingly endless depth. Gentle brushes of crushed berries and wildflowers caress the nose. These notes transition to a full- to medium-bodied mélange of ripe red cherry, cedar wood, creme de cassis, graphite, and licorice, bound together by a powdery mouthfeel that continues to the finish. It’s the kind of Cab that even the most hardened Cab cynic will bend over backwards to obtain.

About the winery and vineyard

In literature, Ulysses documents one man’s epic journey through Greek mythology. In the wine world, it represents the end result of a mind-blowing viticultural career. Officially launched in 2012, the label itself is a side project of Dominus Estate’s legendary owner and winemaker Christian Moueix, the conquering hero whose wines changed the shape of Bordeaux and earned perfect Parker tallies. Christian’s goal behind Ulysses is to deploy every kernel of knowledge he’s accumulated during his storied four-decade career to produce wines that distill the vineyard’s mood down to its purest form. He achieves this by sourcing the label’s grapes from its estate vineyards in Napa’s world-class Oakville AVA. These sublime grapes make the most of the appellation’s deep gravelly soil and the Mayacamas Range-influenced microclimate, producing the type of plump, expressive Cab Sauv grapes the average vintner would stop at nothing to acquire. Christian’s skilled, gentle hand painstakingly guides this excellent fruit into a luscious label that’s poised to help oenophiles indulge in their own adventures.

About the winemaker

Christian Moueix was destined for a long career in wine. After all, his father Jean-Pierre Moueix, the famed negociant whose work with chateaux like Latour a Pomerol and Chateau Petrus established Bordeaux’s Right Bank as a worldwide viticultural force. Christian literally followed in dad’s footsteps, and his guidance of the Petrus label transformed it into a Parker-pleasing powerhouse. Not content with being a force in Bordeaux, Christian helped launched what would become Dominus Estate in Napa in 1983 and proceeded to collect high 90+scores like a kid collecting baseball cards, a haul that’s included a couple perfect Parker scores along the way. He sees the creation of Ulysses as the culmination of his 45-year viticultural journey; one that’s been charged by commitment, passion, and the sense of wisdom that can only come from experience.

97 pts, James Suckling

"Subtle aromas of crushed berries and tile. Mushrooms. Almost dusty. Full to medium body, powdery tannins and mouthfeel. Bright acidity that gives the wine beautiful and enticing freshness. Gentle and ethereal red. The first vintage of the new wine from the owners of Dominus. The vineyard is located in Oakville near Vine Hill. Drink or hold."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
