The wine world is still recovering from the untimely loss of winemaking legend Denis Malbec. While he’s irreplaceable, his immense legacy will go on for decades to come because of selections such as this fantastic Cab Sauv. Featuring luscious grapes carefully sourced from Denis’ adored Howell Mountain AVA, this is a creamy, decadent delight whose richness is held in check with just the right touch of restraint. Exquisite blackberry aromas transition to opulent layers of mountain fruit and crushed rock before finishing on an ample, silky note.

About the wine

Whenever Denis Malbec made a Notre Vin wine, he always made sure it connected with the family-honed viticultural roots he cultivated in Bordeaux’s Chateau Latour. To make sure this mission was properly executed, he passionately and perpetually learned everything he could about Napa’s collection of microclimates. This stunning expression of Cab Sauv is a phenomenal culmination of this intensive viticultural study. He went to the west side of the Howell Mountain AVA that he loved so much to seek out grapes that would do nothing short of linking California with the Old World. One sip of this sensationally opulent vixen is all that’s needed to know he succeeded wildly.  Lush aromas of blackberry waft from its intensely dark purple hue. Rich yet restrained layers seductively unravel on the palate, revealing mountain fruit notes and suggestions of crushed rock and graphite amid a creamy texture. Ripe, tangy tannins lead to a generous, silky finish. Less than 300 cases of this stunner were made, so act accordingly.

About the winery and vineyard

The name Notre Vin is French for “our wine.” It’s a deeply personal sentiment that speaks about the passionate philosophy of the winery’s co-founders Denis Malbec and May-Britt. Although Napa tragically lost Denis last year, May-Britt makes sure the message behind the winery’s name is not lost. It’s a winery whose limited production labels are carefully crafted love letters, not only addressed to those lucky enough to land one of their bottles, but also to the Napa terroir that Denis carried so much reverence for throughout his career. This sumptuous Napa Valley cab is a perfect example of this latter element, as Denis sourced brilliantly succulent grapes from the west side of one of his favorite appellations, the critically lauded Howell Mountain AVA. Marked by warm summer nights, rocky porous soil and gently rolling hills that poke above the valley’s famed fog line, the AVA has an uncanny knack for producing Cab grapes so perfectly balanced and complexity, they practically belong in a textbook. Their elevated vines were a playground for Denis, and the joy that he had in sourcing grapes from this unique patch of Napa Valley can be instantly detected upon the bottle’s opening. The joy that came from him sharing his wines with others can be felt, too.

About the winemaker

The tremendous, untimely loss of Denis Malbec still reverberates through Napa’s undulating vineyards. Yet while he’s no longer with us, he left a legacy that will continue to shape Napa’s destiny for generations to come. It’s one that was built on strong family roots: his father Jean-Noel was the cellar master at the prestigious Chateau Latour in Bordeaux’s First Growth region of Medoc. He followed his father’s path without seeking shortcuts, working his way up from cellar worker to the estate’s Cellar Master. Each wine he made under his precious Notre Vin label reflected the passion he held for the winemaking process he learned in France, but also the deep love of Napa’s unique terroir; one that he intensely studied on a near-perpetual basis. His luscious wines gracefully display these traits, reminding us that the spirit of his legend is always present whenever one his labels are shared.

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
