Michel Rolland, David Abreu, and Napa’s super exclusive Pritchard Hill region all had a hand in making the 2012 Bettina. That’s information juicy enough to blow any hardcore wine lover’s mind. More importantly, these elements coalesce into a deeply seductive Bordeaux-style blend that’s propelled by bright complexity and pinpoint balance. See why no less of authority than Robert Parker digs this label.

About the wine

When a wine is named after a loved one, it had better be exceptional. This principle is one Bryant Family Vineyard proprietor Don Bryant has always met with Bettina, the sumptuous proprietary blend he names after his wife and winery President, Bettina Bryant. It’s not a surprising this cult wine is so phenomenal. After all, consulting legend Michel Rolland and world-renowned vineyard manager David Abreu play key parts in its creation. This fantastic label proves to be particularly special, given that Napa’s 2012 vintage was the most exquisite in a generation. The fruit that forms this seductive cult gem is sourced from a trio of David’s vineyards planted to the not-quite-an-AVA Pritchard Hill, an ultra-exclusive region that only shares its secrets with the very best viticultural talent. The sacrosanct grapes provide the backbone of a gracefully textured, voluptuous vixen that’s received hauled in high praise from the likes of Robert Parker and James Suckling. Seductive aromas of cedar, blackcurrant, and underbrush provide an instant, luscious sense of terroir. The silky-smooth palate transition drive a ripe yet fresh expression of black cherries before revealing tantalizing layers of dark chocolate, spice box, dark stone fruit, graphite, cloves, and leather. Polished tannins guide the experience to a long, satisfying conclusion. It’s a selection worthy to bear a beloved soul’s name, and it’s also worthy of prominent space within anyone’s collection.

About the winery and vineyard

Bryant Family Vineyard proprietor Don Bryant doesn’t just pursue excellence through his semi-eponymous winery. He’s attained it with practically every vintage since his first selections hit the market in 1992. It’s a goal annually achieved through fantastic viticultural partnerships that other wineries can only dream about, including working relationships with titans like consultant Michel Rolland and vineyard manager David Abreu. Both living legends have their hand in the creation of this classic cult wine, which sources fruit from Madrona, Thorevilos, and Lucia: a trio of Abreu-governed vineyards ensconced in Napa’s ultra-exclusive Pritchard Hill district. Although not technically an appellation just yet, the area’s stellar mix of elevation and well-draining soils produce small, intense grapes whose small yields are only accessible to the most trusted purveyors of cult wines. Bryant Family’s ability to score such sacred fruit provides the groundwork for another high 90-point Bordeaux-style proprietary blend that’s knocked the socks off Robert Parker and several other esteemed critics. Once again, excellence has been secured.

About the winemaker

The hands that touch Bryant Family’s Parker-pleasing cult wines reads a bit like a Hall of Fame ballot. Wine consultant and viticultural living legend Michel Rolland has collaborated with Bryant Family Wines for the past decade. The vineyards sourced are managed by David Abreu, the third-generation Napa native whose still-active legacy matches Michel’s stride for stride.  Winemaker Todd Alexander made his bones in such prestigious wineries as PlumpJack Winery and CADE Estate Winery before joining Bryant and guiding Bettina’s journey from vine to bottle. While Todd’s moved on, the winemaking duties have been handed to the sublimely capable hands of rising superstar Marc Gagnon, whose own path is steeped with gigs alongside heavyweights like Thomas Rivers Brown, Nick Gislason, and Screaming Eagle’s Andy Erickson. This collection of jaw-dropping talent nearly makes the high-90 scores Bryant Family’s wines collect anti-climactic, if only because such high praise is practically assured before they hit the shelves.

96 pts - James Suckling

"This is superb wine with dark chocolate, berry and spice. Extremely perfumed. Full body, super silky tannins. Great finish. This is so delicious. Ripe yet fresh. Tannins are polished and elegant."

94 pts - Wine Spectator

"Shows wonderful focus and purity of flavor, extending from initial hints of dusty, loamy earth to cedary oak accents and a taut core of dusty dark berry and savory notes. Impressively graceful and textured. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2029."

94 pts - Vinous / Antonio Galloni

"Graphite, lavender, smoke, plums and violets meld together in the 2012 Bettina, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend made from David Abreu fruit. The flavors are brighter, more focused and more vibrant than in the Cabernet Sauvignon, with gorgeous beams of supporting tannin that convey energy through the finish. Dark red stone fruits, pencil shavings, cloves, leather and smoke add the final layers of complexity."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.
