The Caymus style is undeniable.  By emphasizing lavish fruit, exotic oak and maximum ripeness, Caymus established California as a region that provided world-class pleasure.  Every year, their Cabernet is bold, but the drought intensified 2014 in a special way – so underneath the copious layers of crème de cassis and vanilla there’s a hidden framework of cellar-friendly structure.  One of the most age-able Caymus Cabs in years!

About the wine

It sells out every single vintage, leaving Cabernet lovers to wander in the wilderness, awaiting its next release.  Indeed, Caymus Napa Cabernet enjoys the most ardent support possible when it comes to luxury Cabernet.  A staggering 18,500 Vivino users have weighed in to proclaim the excellence of this benchmark wine and the average rating is 4.5!  That’s got to be a typo.  Incredibly, the sustained awesomeness of Caymus has rightly earned them a legion of devotees and more and more converts join up each day.  That makes securing a Caymus allocation ever more challenging.  The 2014 helps form a holy trinity of outstanding-to-classic rated vintages and in a way, it’s the child of the 2012 and 2013 harvests.  It possesses the abundant, almost overwhelming fruit flavor that made the 2012 an iconic bottling that earned 96 points.  It also retains some of the brooding depth and layering that made the 2013 so substantial.  What makes it unique is an additional core of ripe tannin and dark fruit that portends an excellent aging curve which may outlast the previous two achievements.  It delivers in spades with the hallmark Caymus profile of black cherry and blackberry liqueur, toasty oak, vanilla bean and espresso notes and a sweetly lengthy finish that puts a major smile on your face.

About the winery

“Not many wineries, anywhere in the world, can match the Wagner family's consistent record of success” – Robert Parker

The Wagner family is up there with the Mondavis for the title of America’s winemaking dynasty.  Each family member makes stellar wines from a variety of Californian appellations and patriarch Chuck Wagner steers the august Caymus Vineyard with an unapologetically Californian taste of luxury.  Chuck could rest on his laurels with the reputation of Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet, but if you ask him, there’s so much more to do.  That’s why each year, they prospect for newer and better sources to augment the rock-solid core of elite fruit that has made them synonymous with excellence.

About the vineyards

The core of Caymus has always derived from the Wagner family’s prestigious Rutherford estate.  Ever in search of ways to improve this flagship wine, the family has slowly added in high-quality fruit from sites in such appellations as Calistoga, Atlas Peak and Howell Mountain.  Each appellation contributes a key component, providing aromatics, structure or just plain deliciousness to the final blend.  Few wineries have the experience, talent or connections to source and then harmonize so many top sites together in a brilliant wine.

About the winemaker

Chuck Wagner is a legend in the Napa Valley. In the early 1970’s, his parents gave him the choice of getting involved with the family vineyard in Rutherford, or they would sell the property and move to Australia. He decided to learn winemaking, and the rest, as they say, is for the history books. No other winemaker has consistently made 90+pt Cabernet in the Napa Valley since 1973. His achievements are unrivalled. His pursuit of excellence is the stuff of legends. He single handedly created the “Napa-style” of Cabernet.

94 pts - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley has a dense opaque purple color, a kiss of blackberry and cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel with ripe tannin and a long finish. It is very Caymus in its immediate accessibility, but has plenty of staying power and depth. This is lush, full, intense and pure. Drink it over the next 15 or so years."

94 pts - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (2013 Vintage)

"A beautiful ripe, plump, fat and opulent style of Cabernet Sauvignon that Caymus has pioneered, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, loads of juicy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, low acidity and no real evidence of oak, but a nice, plush, full-bodied opulence. This is irresistible, especially for a Cabernet Sauvignon coming in at 14.9% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next decade or more."

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
