The first sip of a Dunn Cabernet from Howell Mountain will have you hooked. Having learned his craft from the best like Pahlmeyer to La Jota, the wines stand at the top of the heap in Napa. This is the definition of old school mountain cabernet. Towering gems, that are meant for the cellar. Any Dunn fan knows, the one’s from the 90’s are really firing. 60 bottles available.

"...strongest efforts Dunn Vineyards has made since the early 1990s." - Robert Parker

About the wine

In 1979, Randy Dunn launched Dunn Vineyards a top Howell Mountain. At 2,000 feet elevation, the grapes develop thick skins, and ink black juice. The estate only produces about 4,000 cases, a tiny amount for Napa Valley. Where Napa wines have risen to astronomical prices and where “cult” wines are in the $500+ range. The folks at Dunn have remained humble. These wines could easily fetch over $200, yes, for what they are, remain accessible for a wine that many consider to be one of the best out of Napa.

98 pts - Vinous

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a towering majestic wine. Rich, powerful and yet massively tannic, the 2013 possesses a stunning combination of super-ripe fruit, bright acids and plenty of supporting structure. In the early going, the Howell Mountain is a bit reticent, especially next to the Trailer, but after several hours, the vibrancy of the Howell Mountain bottling dazzles. Dunn's Howell Mountain Cabernet is without question one of the wines of the great 2013 vintage. Randy and Mike Dunn's 2013s are off the charts. The Napa Valley Cabernet will give readers a good idea of the vintage, while the two Howell Mountain wines are even more intense. In 2013, the Dunns bottled their Trailer Cabernet alone for the second time (the first was 2012) before redeveloping the vineyard. The Trailer is made in a riper style than the flagship Howell Mountain Cabernet, with more oak influence as well. At the outset, it is more immediate than the Howell Mountain, but as I followed the wines over hours and then days, the Howell showed more energy and overall intensity."

95-97 pts - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain boasts an opaque color, abundant notes of blackberries, spring flowers and blueberries, fabulous richness and a distinctive, singular smell of pen ink. With great intensity, formidable body, sweet tannin and a long finish, it should drink well for 25+ years. This is a strong line-up from this producer, one of the first (1979) to exploit the Howell Mountain terroir. The current releases include the 2010s. The barrel samples of the 2012s appear to be the strongest efforts Dunn Vineyards has made since the early 1990s."

Other Offers

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
