We are thrilled to offer you this fantastic value today. Payout is a sure bet  for anyone looking for a luscious Cabernet blend that over-delivers. Behind the Old West font and whimsical gambling-inspired artwork stands a sumptuously serious homage to Old World viticultural technique and refined artisanal expression. Winemaking wunderkind Brian Graham meticulously tracks down top notch  fruit from some of Napa and Sonoma’s finest vineyards and turn them into a brazen blend that expertly marries Napa’s fruit-driven sensibilities with the gracefully structured soul of a Bordeaux. Brian only produced a small amount of this selection, so true lovers of Bordeaux-style blends shouldn’t risk waiting on purchasing this wine.

About the wine

Payout may be named after a gambling term, but the grapes winemaker extraordinaire Brian Graham finds for this limited-production label are always sure bets. Once again, Brian makes his way all over the North Coast appellation that Napa and Sonoma call home, passionately pursuing prime fruit. Once they’re secured, Brian deploys a hefty measure of the Old World techniques he honed to perfection while learning his craft in Bordeaux and Burgundy back in the day. It’s a terrific approach that yields a terrific blend that combines fruit-forward Napa power with well-structured Bordeaux finesse. Robust aromas of dark red fruits, boysenberry, and currants arrive on the nose, where they’re exquisitely subdued by hints of cedar and opulent dark chocolate. A lush palate transition is marked by pronounced pops of boysenberries and strawberries, which are gracefully balanced by suggestions of maple and roasted coffee. Supple tannins lead the experience to a long, silky-smooth finish. 500 cases of this brazen beauty were created, so act accordingly.

About the winery & vineyards

Winemaking is an art form to Brian Graham. But this doesn’t mean he treats it as a snooty practice. Indeed, his limited production labels like Payout and Parlay are presented with a touch of gamblin’ hall whimsy that seems to tie in nicely to his native Texas roots. Brian remains coy on precisely where he sources the fruit to make labels such as this sublime Bordeaux-style blend. Brian’s well-honed reputation for tirelessly searching up and down the Napa/Sonoma region and beyond for fruit that meets his exacting standards is second to none. His passionate penchant for picking perfect grapes shines brightly through Payout, making it a seriously fun selection for wine lovers to add to their collection.

About the winemaker

Brian Graham’s journey toward making Payout started with a large gamble. The Texas native managed a wine store in college, and became so enamored with viticulture, he rolled the dice and moved to France. He made his own luck in the Old World by attending classes at the University of Bordeaux and picking up stints at several Burgundy and Bordeaux chateaux, where he ambitiously absorbed every speck of knowledge he could. This well-honed, old-school acumen lays the foundation for Brian’s impressive approach to winemaking; one in which the true voice of the fruit informs him of the next step and not the other way around. It’s an outlook that’s led him to become one of Napa’s busiest vintners.

92 pts - Alex Casella, WSET Advanced

"Impressive! Opaque purple gaze with an abundance of phenols on the nose for this price-point and Bordeaux Blend style. Boasting notes of blackberry jam, strawberry, boysenberry, black pepper, grilled herbs and dark chocolate. A restrained yet juicy wine with so much character that truly delivers thoroughly on the finish and mid palate. I’m scratching my head on how this wine could be priced so attractively. Buy by the case for BBQs all summer long. This will age finely for the next 3-7 years, but in such a fantastic place now."

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING
