Stags’ Leap has been championing Napa since 1893, and they Just. Won’t. Quit. This 2014 Cab is a serious wine and unmatched powerhouse--even among Napa heavy hitters!
Putting aside Stags’ Leap has a trophy room of scores, the stellar 2014 vintage produced some legendary Cabernet Sauvignons, with concentration for days and the structure to age for decades. Stags’ Leap is the undisputed crown jewel among them, hands-down. Dark and brooding now, this wine will be long gone before its legendary tannins start to soften!
About the wine
When Robert Parker calls a wine “serious,” you know you’ve got something good on your hands, and those were his exact words on the 2014 Stags’ Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. Another sunny year in California led to record-breaking complexity in the tiny 2014 crop, and Stags’ Leap master winemaker Christophe Paubert didn’t hold back when crafting this exquisite release.
Trained in Bordeaux, including a stint at Chateau d’Yquem, trusts the same time-honored methods that set Stag’s Leap on its path to stardom 100 years ago--the best oak, a gentle touch, and the finest grapes in Napa Valley. With 20 months of aging in a mix of new and used oak, Stags’ Leap Cabernet is so much more than a fruit-driven Napa Cab, blending spice, minerality, and oak in fantastic harmony. Building on the centuries-long tradition in Stags’ Leap, the ‘14 Cab is ready for a long slumber in the cellar if you can resist its fruit driven charm today!

"Dark purple black currants, bramble-berry, graphite, dark chocolate, grilled rosemary, asphalt, coffee grain and charred vanilla bean entice you on your palate and deliver lots of character in the mouth. A boldly structured wine framed with moderate tannins and medium to long finish. This will age for years to come but like many of the 2014s, I am finding a much more near-term approach to catching stride. This is a solid value from a reliable producer in a stellar Napa Valley vintage."
